Tarsar Marsar Trek in Kashmir is one of the most beautiful alpine lake treks in India. This 7 day Himalayan journey takes you deep into the Lidder Valley, across high altitude meadows, glacier-fed rivers, rocky mountain trails, and three stunning alpine lakes Tarsar, Marsar, and Sundarsar. The adventure begins with a scenic drive from Srinagar to Aru Valley, the base camp of the trek. Along the way, you pass saffron fields, the flowing Lidder River, and the vibrant Pahalgam market.
Once the trek starts, the landscape quickly transforms from pine forests and riverside trails to wide grasslands and dramatic mountain terrain.
Each campsite on this trek feels unique. From the peaceful forests of Lidderwat to the boulder sections near Sekhwas, from the breathtaking blue waters of Tarsar Lake to the panoramic views from Marsar Pass the scenery constantly changes. The trek offers the perfect balance of moderate challenge and unforgettable beauty.

Tarsar Marsar Trek
Srinagar – Aru Valley Campsite
After breakfast, start your drive towards Aru Valley, which is the base camp of the Tarsar–Marsar Trek. On the way, you will see many beautiful places such as saffron fields, the Lidder River, Pahalgam market, and much more.
After reaching Aru Valley, freshen up and explore the beautiful surroundings.
Overnight stay in tents at Aru campsite.
Aru – Lidderwat Campsite
Today will be the first day of your trek. Pack your backpacks and start walking towards the next campsite, Lidderwat, through dense forests.
You will walk along one side of the Lidder River, which originates from the Kolhai Glacier. After reaching the campsite, you will be welcomed with Kehwa and snacks.
Overnight stay in tents at Lidderwat campsite.
Lidderwat – Sekhwas Campsite
After breakfast, continue trekking towards the next campsite, Sekhwas. This day will be a bit difficult, as you will have to walk over boulder sections. In the boulder patch, walk slowly and carefully. After reaching Sekhwas campsite, enjoy the scenic meadow views. Overnight stay in tents.
Sekhwas – Tarsar Lake
Wake up early in the morning and pack your backpacks. After breakfast, continue your journey towards Tarsar Lake campsite.
It is only 3–4 hours of trekking from Sekhwas, but the trail starts with a gradual ascent. Once you reach the top, you will get a beautiful first view of Tarsar Lake.
Freshen up, enjoy a cup of chai, and explore the surroundings of the lake.

Tarsar Lake – Sundarsar via Marsar View Point
After breakfast, pack your backpacks and head towards Sundarsar Lake campsite via the Marsar Pass/View Point.
From the Marsar viewpoint, you will get a spectacular view of Marsar Lake. The lake is also the origin of Dachigam Nallah, whose water eventually flows into the famous Dal Lake in Srinagar.
After returning from the viewpoint, reach Sundarsar campsite, relax, and explore the beautiful lake area.

Sundarsar – Sonamasti Campsite
Today you will start descending towards Sonamasti campsite. While going downhill, walk carefully and slowly, as the trail can be rocky and slippery in some sections.
After reaching the campsite, relax and enjoy the peaceful meadow views.

Sonamasti – Sumbal / Surfraw – Srinagar
This will be the last day of your 60 km trek. Walk down towards the trek endpoint.
After reaching the road head, our vehicle will pick you up and drop you in Srinagar.
